What to expect

We are looking for a Data Scientist capable of bridging the gap between vague business questions and rigorous mathematical answers. You must be capable of digging into messy data to find the “truth” and defining what problems should (and can) be solved. You will own the scientific strategy, determining which problems are solvable and proving that our solutions actually work.

As our Senior Data Scientist, you will act as the Strategic Lead of the Applied Science Track. You will report to the Head of Engineering/Principal Scientist and define the roadmap for our Machine Learning, NLP, and Optimization (Operations Research) initiatives.

Crucially, this is a hands-on leadership role. You will be the "Architect" who defines the problem, but you will also actively get your hands dirty with data analysis to validate feasibility. You define the work for the Applied Scientist (Optimization), the Machine Learning Engineer (the Builder), and the NLP Specialist (the Domain Expert). Your goal is to ensure we are solving the right problems with the right data, avoiding the trap of "AI looking for a use case."

What you will do

• You will collaborate with Product Managers to translate abstract business goals (e.g., "reduce downtime") into concrete mathematical problems (e.g., "predict failure probability," "minimize scheduling cost," or "categorize maintenance logs automatically").

• You will dive into large, complex industrial datasets to uncover hidden patterns, trends, and anomalies before any modeling begins.

• For Optimization projects, you define the "Business Objective" (e.g., "balance cost vs. speed") that the Applied Scientist will encode into the mathematical solver. You ensure the math solves the actual business need.

• You will design and execute experiments (A/B testing, hypothesis testing) to validate that our models are performing better than random chance. You prevent the team from being fooled by noise.

• You will build the initial "Proof of Concept" models to test if a solution is possible. Once validated, you hand off the logic to the Engineers/Scientists for production hardening.

• You define the "Definition of Success" (accuracy, precision/recall, ROI) that the rest of the technical team must aim for.

What we expect from you

• 5+ years of experience in Data Science/Applied Statistics, comfortable working with messy, unstructured data.

• Expert in Python and SQL (Pandas, Scikit-Learn, Statsmodels).

• Strong statistical foundation (probability, hypothesis testing, causal inference) with sound judgment on when not to use deep learning.

• Industrial/MRO exposure, including time-series, sensor data, or logistics.

• Experience mentoring/leading a small technical team and collaborating across Operations Research, NLP (LLMs, embeddings, RAG), and Engineering, mindful of latency and cost constraints.
